Wonder Awaits! A Book Review
Wonder Awaits! is a new release from Chalice Press. We were provided with a review copy and my children and I are all glad it came across my desk!
Wonder Awaits! invites families to wonder together. It features photographs of children in their communities, along with prompts that help people discover together how to go about the important work of wondering. The simple text coupled with beautiful photographs compel readers to revisit the book time and again. My toddler throws this book into my lap at least four times a day and sits and leafs through the pages on his own. My early elementary school aged children also enjoy revisiting it, and it has earned a spot on our coffee table, for ease of access.
I plan on using this book in many ways in my work in children and family ministries. I have been blessed to provide a story time weekly for local preschoolers in our urban community via Zoom. This book will earn a spot in the rotation not only because of the words, but also because the photographs are representative of a diverse community and will allow all of the children to find someone in the pages that resembles them. I will be launching a new toddler faith formation ministry in a few months, focused on interaction with the Bible stories alongside their families. Wonder Awaits! will be part of our introduction, helping us set the framework for the important work of wondering about God’s great story that includes us all. I also plan on using this book as a springboard for my middle grade kids. We have been delving deeply into finding new ways to wonder and examine what God is putting in our paths while we go deeper into our understanding of our place in God’s world. Photography is wonderful medium for them to record their responses and questions, and this book will enhance our work.
This book got itself placed at the top of my ‘purchase now’ list, not just for home, but also for ministry.
