Lent can be a hard season for children. Traditionally, it is heavy with themes of death and self-denial. Make Room offers a more positive view of Lent as a special time for creating a welcoming space for God. Simple and practical acts like cleaning a room, making bread and soup, and inviting a neighbor for supper become acts of justice and kindness, part of a life of following Christ. Laura Alary is a writer, mother, teacher and storyteller. Her academic background is in Classics, Theology, and New Testament, but for the past fourteen years she has been pursuing a different kind of education as the mother of three inquisitive children. Laura is the author of seven picture books for children, including “Look! A Child’s Guide to Advent and Christmas” (a companion to “Make Room”) and “Read. Wonder. Listen.
