Talking with Kids About Injustices
The world is full of injustices, and kids are aware of many of them, through lived experience and/or by listening and observing. We leave something vitally important on the table when we fail to explain that the God who promises to someday mend the entire universe cares about all who are suffering, and that engaging ourselves in that caring and healing work, individually and corporately, is a faithful expression of our faith.
About the Webinar
The world is full of injustices, and kids are aware of many of them, through lived experience and/or by listening and observing. Justice is a major theme that fills the entire Biblical narrative. Unfortunately, many churches have missed the opportunity to connect these two truths. We leave something vitally important on the table when we fail to explain that the God who promises to someday mend the entire universe cares about all who are suffering, and that engaging ourselves in that caring and healing work, individually and corporately, is a faithful expression of our faith. These are big ideas and concepts that might seem daunting to talk about with adults, let alone kids. Yet justice is an important part of children’s faith formation that deserves our attention.
This webinar will provide ideas about why we should have faith-based conversations with kids about injustices and suggestions for how to go about doing so. We will think about what kids and faith communities might gain by diving into this area of faith formation, and how to anticipate and address challenges. Attendees will have a chance to share their own experiences and questions so that we learn from one another. The goal is for all attendees to walk away encouraged and inspired, with concrete ideas and resources to begin or continue their work in this area of ministry.
